OUR ORGANIZATION

 

UNION SYMPHONY SOCIETY, INC. is a nonprofit organization which provides administrative services and recruits financial support for the development of programs for classical music education and artistic excellence in symphonic orchestra and choral masterpiece performances to inspire and enrich the lives of an all inclusive diverse population. Union Symphony Society, Inc. seeks to maintain sound financial stability with clear accountability, to maintain the highest standards in performance and programming, and to operate in a culture of community service, respect and collaboration.

 

UNION SYMPHONY PROGRAMS

 

Cultural
• Union Symphony League sponsors Tea and Tables, a premiere event showcasing
elegant and creative table designs for every season and theme by some of our
community leaders.
• Our opening season concert, Bravo! Beethoven, with guest conductor
Tara Villa Chamra of Davidson College, features Youth Concerto Finalist
Pianist Sarah Saba and orchestra. Preconcert lecture by Mekel Rogers.
• Orpheus in the Underworld showcases Union Symphony Orchestra with the opera of Wingate University Music Department.
• A Christmas program highlights the Union Symphony Orchestra and Union Chorale.
• Up Close and Personal is a Valentine’s Day Gala and Pops Concert at Rolling Hills Country Club.
• Our spring concert features a collaborative performance of ? Union Symphony Orchestra with Union Symphony Youth Orchestra.
• Amazing Grace Musical Competition is open to individuals or groups of all ages to showcase their instrumental and/or vocal
renditions of that classic hymn.


Youth

• The new Union Symphony Youth Orchestra (USYO) serves music students Grades 8–12 or who have a minimum

of two years formal music instruction. Students will attend music camp and regular rehearsals throughtout the year
where they will learn and play orchestral repertoire. Their season will include three concerts as well as venues
for chamber music. Auditions for this first season will be held this May 16, 2009. Join our email club to request more
information about auditions and audition requirements.
• Benton Heights After School Strings Program for children Grades 1–4 served 26 children last season.
• Fred Ingold Memorial Music Festival was a county wide feature concert and program serving nearly 4000

second grade students and their teachers.
• The new Junior Guild will provide exposure to the symphony and leadership opportunities to students

Grades 7–12. Students will meet musicians, assist at symphony events, conduct fund raising and attend

cultural events related to their music development. There will also be venues for their own musical performance.
• Youth Instrumentalist Concerto Competition provides area high school students the opportunity to audition to

showcase exceptional abilities. This competition is judged by area experts in the field.
